The Sisal Basket
Coiled and woven by hand from sisal, the tough natural fibre grown across Kenya. Each wide, shallow bowl is built from a single spiral, row by row, with the colours worked in as the weaver goes. Use it for fruit, keys and everyday things, or hang it on the wall. Choose from three designs.
Woven by hand, so no two are exactly alike.
Design: Ink Triangles

The story of the sisal basket
Row by row, from the centre out.
In Kenya, basket weaving is passed from mothers and grandmothers to daughters, and more than a dozen communities each have their own style. Sisal fibre is dyed, then wrapped tightly around a coil and stitched to the row before it, spiralling out from the centre. The colours are worked in as the weaver goes, so every basket comes out a little different.
